NATURAL Resources and Environmental Sustainability Deputy Minister Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh recently conducted a working visit to several strategic locations in Sabah to strengthen geological disaster preparedness and early warning systems for public safety.
The visit involved projects under the Department of Minerals and Geoscience Malaysia, including active fault mapping and earthquake risk monitoring.
Landslide Early Warning System (EWS) is also installed and conducting assessments of critical slopes in Kundasang, Ranau and Kota Kinabalu.
Among the locations visited were Kundasang View Point, Kampung Lembah Permai, Sabah Tea Ranau, SK Kokol Menggatal and Country Height Apartment in Bundusan, all identified as areas vulnerable to land movement risks.
“The initiative highlights how technology, scientific expertise and continuous monitoring can help the government detect risks earlier and strengthen mitigation measures before disasters occur,” the ministry said in a statement.
Syed Ibrahim also visited Kampung Lembah Permai, which experienced soil creep in February 2023 and the critical slope area at Country Height Apartment in Bundusan that was affected by a landslide in September 2025.
In addition to technical briefings and site inspections, he engaged with local residents, teachers and students to better understand concerns surrounding the safety of their communities.
