GLOBAL Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 participants detained at Ktziot Prison have reportedly been subjected to severe abuse by Israeli forces, including repeated use of tasers, physical assault and mental humiliation.
The Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, also known as Adalah, which represents the GSF 2.0 participants, said it received a large number of complaints after visiting the detainees at Ashdod Port.
“The violence resulted in serious and widespread injuries, including at least three individuals who were hospitalised before being released. Lawyers also recorded dozens of participants suspected of suffering fractured ribs, causing difficulty breathing,” it said in a statement.
Adalah said reports also showed the frequent use of tasers against participants, as well as injuries caused by rubber bullets when the flotilla was intercepted and while they were transferred to military boats.
The legal group said the detained activists were subjected to severe violence on board the vessels and throughout the transfer process between the boats and the port.
“Israel also forced activists into physically stressful positions while moving them around the port, where they were made to walk fully bent over while their backs were roughly pressed down by guards,” it said.
Adalah said participants were also forced to remain squatting on their knees in the boats for long periods.
It said the abuse was not limited to physical violence, as participants were also subjected to severe humiliation and sexual harassment, particularly involving women.
Adalah said it would continue to closely monitor the situation, with participants expected to be brought before a tribunal tomorrow pending their deportation process.
It said it would demand to be present during the proceedings to provide legal representation to the detainees.
Adalah also reiterated its call for all flotilla participants it described as being unlawfully detained to be released immediately and unconditionally.
The fate of 428 GSF 2.0 participants from 40 countries, including 29 Malaysians, remains unknown after they were intercepted by Israel two nights ago.
Sumud Nusantara Command Centre director-general Datuk Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby said the last vessels detained were Zefiro and Alcyone, which were reportedly at the front of the flotilla and about 80 nautical miles from the Gaza coast.
