CASE ALLEGATIONS: C3.ai operates as an enterprise artificial intelligence (“AI”) application software company.

The C3.ai class action lawsuit alleges that defendants created the false impression that they possessed reliable information pertaining to C3.ai’s projected revenue outlook and anticipated growth while also minimizing risk to C3.ai’s profitability from defendant CEO Thomas M. KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia has slammed Israel’s plans to seize control of Gaza, describing it as modern-day colonisation and ‘an insult to the diplomatic efforts of all’.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the plan marked a bold escalation of Israel’s long-held ambition to occupy Palestinian lands.

“Reported plans for an Israeli military takeover of Gaza are an outrage. What they are planning now is a bold escalation of their long-held wish to occupy Palestinian lands for good.

“This is modern-day colonisation, and an insult to the diplomatic efforts of all,” he said when delivering Malaysia’s statement at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Monday.

He said despite sincere mediation attempts by various parties, Israel has not only refused to comply with calls for peace or a ceasefire, it also ignored repeated calls to protect civilians, allow safe evacuation, and facilitate humanitarian aid.

“We asked them not to harm civilians. They blew up housing areas, schools, and hospitals. We asked them to let civilians evacuate to safe areas.

“They bombarded evacuation zones. We asked them to let in humanitarian aid. They attacked those bringing supplies, cut off the delivery of aid, and starved all of Gaza,” he said.

The United Nations (UN) had officially declared a famine in Gaza, with acute malnutrition, no access to food, and an increasingly high death toll, he noted.

He said Malaysia, like many members of the international community, had extended assistance through UNRWA and other channels to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people, but such efforts continued to be obstructed by the regime.

Mohamad warned that the atrocities committed by Israeli occupying forces, over the past two years, are only the beginning.

“Israel has made it clear that it will never cooperate. And let me be clear: It will not stop.

“Israel’s ambition has always been expansion. We know that “Greater Israel” is not a new concept. It has always been an Israeli national policy, to usurp surrounding land to build settlements, and to violently eliminate anyone standing in the way.

The minister also warned that Israel’s violence, which began with Palestine, would not end there, as it would continue to expand, grabbing land around the region and intimidating its critics.

“But there is still time for the members of the ummah to save those among us in need.

“Someday, when there is an independent Palestinian State, with East Jerusalem as its Capital, we will know that the Islamic peoples around the world made this possible. But we must continue to raise our voices, every single day, until peace and justice come to Palestine at last,” he said.

Israel has killed more than 62,000 Palestinians in its brutal onslaught on Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated Gaza and facing famine. — BERNAMA

MP13: Use of technology to drive economic transformation

KUALA LUMPUR — The use of technology was a key focus of debate in the Dewan Negara today following the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (MP13), which is seen as a major driver in enhancing the country’s competitiveness by 2030.

Senator Datuk Ros Suryati Alang said MP13, themed “Reshaping Development”, not only emphasised economic growth based on the principles of Malaysia MADANI, but also created broad opportunities for digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), automation and green technology to strengthen the nation’s global standing.

“The use of drones, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data analytics and biotechnology is no longer optional but a necessity. These measures will boost productivity, reduce reliance on foreign labour and make the palm oil industry more sustainable and competitive,” she said when debating the motion on MP13.

She added that the technology would not only benefit the palm oil and agriculture industries but would also open new opportunities in other sectors, including smart city development and logistics.

Similarly, Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim also proposed that the government allocate special funds under MP13 to strengthen the country’s water and border control capabilities through the use of smart drone technology

He said such an approach would improve monitoring of high-risk areas and safeguard national sovereignty against aggression and cross-border crime.

He emphasised that drones now play an essential role in modern defence systems, allowing comprehensive and continuous surveillance without requiring the physical presence of security forces in remote areas.

Meanwhile, Senator Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari suggested that the government allocate special funds under MP13 to advance health technology, particularly in virtual reality (VR), as part of reforms to the country’s healthcare system.

He said VR technology has become one of the key innovations in the global medical sector, with its use becoming increasingly widespread in hospitals in the United States for trauma treatment, physical therapy and surgical training.

“The world is witnessing the rapid adoption of VR in healthcare. The government must pay attention to this. Malaysia cannot afford to be left behind. The 13th Malaysia Plan should allocate special funding for VR Healthcare Innovation to ensure our people benefit from this technology,” he said.

Vell Paari also referred to a South Florida Business Journal report in August 2025, which highlighted that VR technology not only accelerates trauma treatment but also helps reduce costs and enhances the effectiveness of medical training.

Ex-pol sec’s graft trial: RM250,000 withdrawn from company account, says witness

KUALA LUMPUR — The Sessions Court hearing the corruption case involving the former political secretary to the ex-Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was told today that RM250,000 had been withdrawn from a company’s bank account.

RHB Bank Jalan Tengku Ampuan Zabedah branch manager in Shah Alam, Nurzaiti Wahid, 41, told the court that the bank statement of Nexuscorp Two Sdn Bhd’s account from Dec 1 to 31, 2020, showed a withdrawal of RM250,000 on Dec 16, 2020.

“I confirm that this is the original RHB Islamic Bank cheque belonging to Nexuscorp Two Sdn Bhd for RM250,000 dated Dec 16, 2020. The cheque was issued by the account holder of Nexuscorp Two Sdn Bhd on Dec 16, 2020, which the RHB Bank at the Jalan Tengku Ampuan Zabedah branch in Shah Alam received on the same day,” she said.

The first prosecution witness said this in her testimony at the trial of Sayed Amir Muzzakkir Al Syaed Mohamad, 42, who faces three corruption charges involving a total of RM350,000.

On May 23, Sayed Amir Muzzakkir was charged with two counts of receiving RM350,000 in cash bribes from NexusCorp Group Sdn Bhd’s managing director, Wan Azhar Mohamed Yusof.

The cash was said to be an inducement for the accused to help the company secure the tender to maintain and supply the spare parts for the infrastructure, server, software, and RMPNET radio system for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), worth RM381,112,042.44.

The offences were allegedly committed at the office of Yayasan Tanah Aku, Solaris Dutamas here, at 4 pm on Dec 4 and 3.30 pm on Dec 16, 2020.

Sayed Amir Muzzakkir was charged with soliciting a cash bribe of RM350,000 from the same individual for the same purpose at the Nexuscorp Group Sdn Bhd office in Section 7 Industrial Area, Shah Alam, Selangor, at 4 pm, early December 2020.

The charges are framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24(1) of the same law, which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount or value of the bribe, or RM10,000 at whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hazel Tan Jia Qi leads the prosecution, while lawyers Md Yunos Shariff and Asmadi Hussin represent the accused.

Ringgit ends higher vs greenback on possible US rate cut in September

KUALA LUMPUR — The ringgit ended higher against the US dollar on Monday, driven primarily by the United States Federal Reserve (Fed) chair Jerome Powell’s dovish Jackson Hole speech, which signalled a possible interest rate cut in September.

At 6 pm, the local note rose to 4.2045/2105 versus the greenback from last Friday’s close of 4.2245/2295.

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said Powell’s speech was the main trigger as the Fed prepared the market for the eventual rate cut in September.

“While the inflation rate is still high compared to the two per cent target, the Fed seems to be willing to tolerate it, as the balance of risks has shifted towards slower economic growth.

“On that note, it is critical that the Fed exhibits to the markets that it is ahead of the game in order to gain market confidence. Thus far, such development is dollar-negative in the near term,” he told Bernama.

At the close, the ringgit settled lower against a basket of major currencies.

It edged down versus the euro to 4.9163/9233 from 4.8996/9054 at last Friday’s close, fell vis-à-vis the Japanese yen to 2.8534/8577 from 2.8408/8443 previously, and weakened against the British pound to 5.6740/6821 from 5.6659/6726.

Meanwhile, the local note traded mixed against other ASEAN currencies.

Case of Rafizi’s son: All parties must patiently wait for health report results — Dzulkefly

PUTRAJAYA — Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad (picture) has asked all parties to be patient and wait for the results of the medical report related to the case of former PKR Deputy President Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s son.

Speaking to reporters after witnessing the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Roche (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd for the Cancer Care Closer to Community (CCC) initiative here today, Dzulkefly said the matter is still under investigation and will take some time to be resolved.

“This is something that will require time for investigation and treatment; we need to allow the investigation to run its course. We have to be a little patient to get a finding and result that I am confident will do justice to this matter,” he said.

Recently, the media reported that Rafizi’s son was attacked around 2 pm at a drop-off area of a shopping mall here.

Rafizi claimed the attack involved two men in black clothes and helmets on a motorcycle, with one of them dragging his son before injecting him with something using a syringe.

Last Friday, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said police had taken statements from 19 individuals, including Rafizi’s family members, a driver, employees, and several other witnesses to assist in the investigation.

Mohd Khalid said the police are still waiting for a chemical report from the hospital regarding the liquid injected into Rafizi’s son. — BERNAMA

Gamuda-Naim JV wins RM1.13b Limbang highway job

KUALA LUMPUR — A joint venture between Gamuda Bhd and Sarawak-based Naim Holdings Bhd has secured a RM1.13 billion contract to build the Limbang section of the Northern Coastal Highway in Sarawak.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing, Gamuda said the project was awarded to its 30%-owned associate, Naim Gamuda (NAGA) JV Sdn Bhd, by the Regional Corridor Development Authority. Naim holds the remaining 70%.

The package covers a 14.7km four-lane dual carriageway in Limbang, including bridges, a flyover, and other works, to be completed over four years.

Gamuda said the highway will enhance regional connectivity and spur socio-economic growth in northern Sarawak, while strengthening trade and investment links with Sabah and Brunei.

The Limbang section is part of the 87.96km Northern Coastal Highway, a RM6 billion Sarawak-funded project expected to be completed by 2030.

It will connect Miri, Limbang and Lawas via an alternative domestic route, bypassing Brunei and cutting out four immigration checks.

The highway will complement the Pan Borneo Highway and provide seamless access to Sabah and Brunei through the Merapok border. — TMR
