TORONTO, June 13, 2025 /CNW/ – DRI Healthcare Trust (TSX: DHT.UN) (TSX: DHT.U) (the “Trust”) today announced KalVista Pharmaceuticals (“KalVista”) has disclosed that it has received notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) that the FDA will not meet the June 17, 2025 PDUFA goal date for the New Drug Application (NDA) for sebetralstat, due to a heavy workload and agency resourcing issues. KalVista commented that the FDA has not requested additional data or studies and has communicated to KalVista that it anticipates delivering a decision within approximately four weeks.

LOS ANGELES, June 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — At a hearing today before the California Department of Insurance, State Farm opposed Pacific Palisades homeowner Merritt David Farren’s petition to participate in the ongoing rate review proceedings, citing the Department’s newly announced market conduct examination of the company’s claims handling practices following the January wildfires in Los Angeles. State Farm argued that allegations concerning its failure to properly pay wildfire claims were not relevant to its request for yet another rate hike—despite having already secured a 20% increase in 2024 and a 17% emergency interim increase earlier this year, which is now proposed to be folded into a larger 30% permanent increase.

“State Farm wants to shut the public out because it argues a market conduct exam would take too long,” said Ben Powell, a consumer protection attorney at Consumer Watchdog. “But just weeks ago, State Farm pushed the Department to approve an emergency rate hike with unprecedented speed—even though it hadn’t submitted all the required information. When it comes to raising rates, State Farm demands urgency. But when it comes to protecting consumers, it wants regulators to slam on the brakes.”

Consumer Watchdog emphasized that Proposition 103 guarantees any member of the public the right to intervene in insurance proceedings—a safeguard designed to hold insurers accountable.

“If the Department is willing to act quickly for insurers, it must act just as quickly to protect policyholders,” Powell added. “No one should be excluded from this process—especially not consumers left without fair claim payments after the fires.”

Today’s hearing concluded with the Administrative Law Judge taking the matter under submission. A decision on Mr. Farren’s intervention petition is expected soon.

Jason Menzo Urges Robust FY2026 Funding for National Eye Institute and Protection of Its Independent Status

COLUMBIA, Md., June 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The Foundation Fighting Blindness, the driving force in the global development of treatments and cures for blinding diseases, today submitted written testimony to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies through its chief executive officer, Jason Menzo, who served as an expert outside witness. The Foundation emphasized that inconsistent funding stalls clinical trials, closes labs, and risks losing top scientific talent—consequences that are difficult and costly to reverse. The testimony also noted that for every dollar invested in NIH-funded research, $2.56 in new economic activity is generated, making this one of the highest-return investments Congress can make.

Health Canada is advising consumers about a recall of the Oracare Baby Brush toothbrush sold at Dollarama stores across Canada. The toothbrush may pose a choking hazard due to a manufacturing defect that can cause it to break into two pieces.  

Dollarama has received 1 consumer complaint concerning this manufacturing defect; however, there have been no choking incidents reported to the company or Health Canada to date.

Dollarama has advised Health Canada that it will no longer import or sell the Oracare Baby Brush toothbrush.

The company is advising consumers, especially parents and caregivers of children, to stop using this product and return it to Dollarama for a refund.

Health Canada will continue to monitor the situation and will take appropriate and timely action should new information become available.

• Seek immediate medical attention from a health care professional if injury has occurred from using Oracare Baby Brush toothbrush.
