King: Safeguard Islam’s sanctity, don’t use religion for political gain

KUALA LUMPUR — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia today issued a stern reminder to community leaders not to use Islam as a political tool for personal interests.

His Majesty said that Islam should instead serve as the foundation, including in national governance, based on values, justice and compassion in line with the complete and perfect principles of syariah, which encompass all aspects of life.

“I would like to remind community leaders not to politicise Islam for personal gain. Instead, they should Islamise politics for the good of the nation.

“Islam is a complete and perfect religion that covers every aspect of life. Therefore, no party should exploit religion for their political interests, spread slander or incite hatred, which in the end will divide society,” His Majesty said.

Sultan Ibrahim said this in his address at the national-level Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M celebration at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here.

His Majesty also said that platforms for dakwah (Islamic preaching) and religious teaching should not be used to promote political agendas, but should remain spaces to strengthen unity and cohesion among the ummah.

Sultan Ibrahim further decreed that all parties must respect the Federal Constitution and never spark hostility in the name of race or religion, which could jeopardise national peace.

“The strong unity we enjoy in this country stems from the Federal Constitution, which outlines the values of togetherness, power equity, responsibility and consensus.

“Let us together safeguard the sanctity of Islam and foster harmonious unity among the ummah, for Islam is a religion of brotherhood and peace,” Sultan Ibrahim said.

At the same time, His Majesty decreed that the administration of the country must be guided by Islamic syariah, and not be influenced by secular or liberal ideologies. — BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar (picture) has urged Muslims in the country to embrace the true meaning of Hijrah, which goes beyond physical change to encompass a comprehensive transformation in values, mindset and attitude.

He said it is time for the people to shift from being passive to proactive, and to cultivate self-reliance in building a MADANI nation.

Mohd Na’im also said that every citizen must become a driving agent in fostering knowledge, upholding values, prioritising unity and embracing differences, thereby contributing to the development of families, communities and the nation based on compassion and piety.

“This year’s Maal Hijrah celebration carries the theme ‘Membangun Ummah MADANI’ (Developing a MADANI Ummah), a concept that reflects the spirit of the Prophet Muhammad’s Hijrah.

“It calls on the ummah to reclaim its role as an agent of mercy, justice and progress – shaping a value-driven society grounded in faith,” he said in his speech at the National-level Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M celebration at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) today.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia officiated the event, which was also attended by Tunku Temenggong Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar.

Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Cabinet ministers.

The event drew nearly 8,000 attendees, including contingents from ministries, government departments and agencies, as well as international representatives.

Mohd Na’im further said that hijrah represents a time to renew the collective resolve towards greater unity, moral excellence and dignity in the effort to build a MADANI ummah.

“May the year 1447H be a turning point for all of us – a hijrah towards mercy, goodness and well-being,” he said.

In line with the theme of this year’s celebration, Mohd Na’im said the government, through the Prime Minster’s Department (Religious Affairs) has introduced the Al-Falah Transformation Plan 2023-2027, anchored on five hijrah values, namely Ilmu (knowledge), Integriti (integrity), Itqan (excellence), Istiqamah (consistency) and Ikhlas (sincerity), as the strategic framework for Islamic development in Malaysia.

He said the plan aims to create a more sustainable Islamic administration, while also enhancing civic participation and cultivating a more caring community.

Various initiatives have also been implemented, including Majlis Amanat Al-Falah 2025, the Santuni Komuniti MADANI programme, Zikir Akbar and high-impact dakwah programme, as well as outreach activities for orphans and frontliners.

“These efforts reflect how the spirit of hijrah is being translated into action by engaging the people, strengthening core values and empowering society,” he added. — BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR – Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong menyeru agar agama Islam tidak dipolitikkan demi kepentingan peribadi atau parti, sebaliknya menggesa semua pihak untuk ‘mengislamkan politik’ agar selari dengan kepentingan negara dan syariat Islam.

Sultan Ibrahim bertitah, setiap urus tadbir yang dijalankan perlulah berlandaskan dengan syariat Islam dan bukan mengikut fahaman-fahaman berbeza.

“Urus tadbir kerajaan mestilah mengikut landasan syariat Islam, bukannya fahaman sekular atau liberal.

“Islam adalah agama yang lengkap dan sempurna, mencakupi seluruh aspek kehidupan manusia,” titah Seri Paduka pada Majlis Sambutan Maal Hijrah Peringkat Kebangsaan 1447H/2025M yang berlangsung di Pusat Pameran dan Perdagangan Antarabangsa Malaysia (MITEC), di sini, hari ini.

Baginda turut mengingatkan bahawa pentas dakwah dan medan pengajaran agama tidak wajar dijadikan alat bagi agenda politik, sebaliknya menyeru supaya semua umat Islam menjadikan Islam sebagai cara hidup sebenar melalui akhlak, amalan dan adab yang mulia.

Mengimbas kembali peristiwa hijrah Rasulullah SAW dari Mekah ke Madinah, Seri Paduka menyifatkannya sebagai titik permulaan tamadun Islam agung yang wajar diteladani dalam membentuk negara berperadaban tinggi.

Seri Paduka mengingatkan agar semua pihak menghormati Perlembagaan Negara dan tidak mencetuskan permusuhan atas nama kaum atau agama yang boleh menggugat keamanan negara.

Seri Paduka juga menyeru seluruh kepimpinan negara agar mencontohi sifat Rasulullah SAW yang berhemah, adil dan tidak menzalimi golongan lemah.

“Marilah kita berganding bahu membina negara yang bukan sahaja berjaya di mata dunia, tetapi juga diberkati Ilahi,” titah baginda.

Sultan Ibrahim ketika mengakhiri titah mengucapkan selamat menyambut Tahun Baharu Hijrah 1447H kepada seluruh umat Islam dan mendoakan agar Malaysia terus dirahmati dan diberkati oleh Allah SWT. – KOSMO! ONLINE.

Kuala Lumpur – Bekas Mufti Johor, Datuk Dr. Nooh Gadut, telah dinobatkan sebagai Tokoh Maal Hijrah Peringkat Kebangsaan Tahun 1447H/2025M.

Nooh, 78, merupakan anak jati Segamat, Johor, memiliki Ijazah Sarjana Muda dalam bidang Feqah Syariah Al-Islamiyyah dan Undang-Undang dari Universiti Al-Azhar, Mesir.

Sepanjang kerjaya beliau, Nooh pernah berkhidmat sebagai Mufti Johor ke-11 dari 1999 hingga 2008 dan memainkan peranan penting dalam pentadbiran fatwa serta pendidikan agama di Malaysia.

Beliau juga Penasihat Agama kepada Sultan Johor dan Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Muzakarah Majlis Kebangsaan Bagi Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Malaysia.

Sementara itu, Menteri Haji dan Umrah Arab Saudi, Yang Terutama Dr. Tawfiq Fawzan Al-Rabiah, telah diiktiraf sebagai Tokoh Maal Hijrah Peringkat Antarabangsa.

Beliau yang dilahirkan di Riyadh, Arab Saudi dipilih atas sumbangan cemerlangnya dalam memartabatkan perkhidmatan haji dan umrah di peringkat global.

Sebagai Menteri Haji dan Umrah sejak 2021, beliau telah memperkenalkan pelbagai inisiatif inovatif seperti Laluan Mekah dan platform Nusuk yang memudahkan jemaah dari seluruh dunia, termasuk Malaysia, untuk menunaikan ibadah dengan lebih selesa dan efisien.

Beliau juga memainkan peranan penting dalam pelaksanaan Visi 2030 Arab Saudi, memastikan kelestarian dan kemajuan dalam pengurusan haji dan umrah.

Selain itu, beliau memiliki kelulusan akademik yang gemilang termasuk ijazah sarjana muda dalam Pengurusan Kewangan dan Matematik dari Universiti King Saud, dua ijazah sarjana dalam Sains Maklumat dan Sains Komputer serta Ijazah Doktor Falsafah (PhD) dalam Sains Komputer dari Universiti Pittsburgh.

Beliau juga telah menerbitkan 16 kertas akademik dan menyumbang kepada Pelan Transformasi Nasional Arab Saudi.

Kedua-dua tokoh menerima hadiah wang tunai, sijil dan trofi yang disampaikan oleh Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim. – KOSMO! ONLINE

IPOH — A deep devotion to the Quran has earned Sharifah Khasif Fadzillah Syed Badiuzzaman the Perak Maal Hijrah 1447H Personality Award at a state-level celebration graced by Sultan Nazrin Shah last night.

Sharifah Khasif, 43, said she was humbled by the recognition, calling it a tribute to the greatness of the Quran and the guidance of her late father. “If we become people of the Quran, God willing, we will receive everything we need,” she recalled his words.

Originally from Ipoh, she never imagined receiving such a prestigious honour, despite her past achievements in Quranic recitation at national and international levels.

At the event, she received RM15,000 in cash from the Perak state government, an umrah package worth RM9,000, a plaque, and a certificate.

She is currently the director of Akademi Sharifah Khasif and leads the Sharifah Khasif Quran and Taranum Tahfiz Centre. She also serves as a Quranic Studies advisor at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia.

Sharifah Khasif was crowned Overall Best Qariah in 2009, and has previously won the Perak Quran recitation competition eight times between 2000 and 2008.

Despite her accolades, she describes herself simply as a lover of the Quran striving to uphold its teachings. — BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR — The national-level Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M celebration takes place today at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), with more than 8,000 guests expected to attend, including local and international dignitaries.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the King and Queen of Malaysia, are scheduled to arrive at 9.30 am to grace the event.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, both Deputy Prime Ministers, Cabinet ministers, foreign envoys, government officials, participating contingents and members of the public are also expected to attend.

A key highlight of the ceremony will be the Royal Address by His Majesty, who will also present the National and International Ma’al Hijrah Personality Awards.

The programme includes a special tausiyyah (religious lecture) on the theme of hijrah (migration), to be delivered by Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

The event will be broadcast live on TV1 by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and other local stations, and streamed via the official social media platforms of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).

This year’s theme, ‘Membangun Ummah MADANI’ (Developing a MADANI Ummah), calls on Muslims to reflect on the Prophet Muhammad’s hijrah and apply its lessons to build a progressive, inclusive and morally grounded society.

In a previous statement, JAKIM said the theme underscores values of inclusivity and civilisation-building, not just in physical terms, but also in nurturing morally and spiritually excellent individuals.

“This year’s celebration highlights the spirit of hijrah, particularly the sacrifices and efforts of the Prophet in developing a virtuous society grounded in sustainability, well-being, creativity, dignity, confidence and compassion, all while embracing diversity in unity,” the statement read.

Muslims across the country welcomed the new Islamic year 1447H last night with reflection and reverence, marked by the year-end and new year prayers held at mosques and suraus nationwide. — BERNAMA
