THE leaders of France, Britain and Canada called on Israel to stop its military operations in Gaza and allow humanitarian aid to enter the territory.
“The Israeli government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable and risks breaching international humanitarian law,” the leaders of the three countries said in a joint statement Monday.
While supporting Israel’s right to defend its citizens following the “heinous” Hamas attack of Oct. 7, this escalation is “wholly disproportionate,” they added.
If Israel doesn’t cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, the leaders threatened to take “further concrete actions” in response, including targeted sanctions. They also demanded that Israel halt “illegal” settlements that “undermine the viability” of a Palestinian state.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement that “the leaders in London, Ottawa and Paris are offering a huge prize for the genocidal attack on Israel on Oct. 7 while inviting more such atrocities.”
“Israel will continue to defend itself by just means until total victory is achieved,” he said. –BLOOMBERG
