HONG KONG — An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 jolted Northern Sumatra, Indonesia at 0857 GMT on Sunday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences said, Xinhua reported.
The epicentre, with a depth of 89.4 km, was initially determined to be at 3.73 degrees north latitude and 97.03 degrees east longitude.
The agency did not issue a tsunami warning, as the tremor was not expected to generate significant waves.
The tremor was strongly felt by residents, but no preliminary reports of serious damage have been received so far, Sofyan, a senior official from Aceh province’s Disaster Management Agency, told Xinhua.
