Democratic Party’s Lee Jae Myung holds lead in South Korea’s presidential race

SEOUL — South Korea’s Democratic Party (DP) presidential candidate Lee Jae Myung is ahead of his People Power Party (PPP) rival Kim Moon Soo with 45 per cent support against Kim’s 36 per cent, Yonhap news agency reported citing a Gallup Korea survey released Friday.

The poll, conducted on 1,002 adults from Tuesday to Thursday, also showed Lee Jun Seok of the minor New Reform Party in third place with 10 per cent. Eight per cent of respondents remained undecided.

Support for the DP’s Lee dropped by 6 percentage points compared with the previous week, while Kim and Lee Jun Seok saw respective gains of 7 and 2 percentage points.

By party affiliation, the liberal DP held 42 per cent support, while the conservative PPP stood at 36 per cent.

The survey’s margin of error was 3.1 percentage points at a 95 per cent confidence level. — BERNAMA-YONHAP
