The project aligns with Malakoff’s broader green goals, including plans to install EV charging stations and expand its RE portfolio
MALAKOFF Corporation Berhad (Mala- koff) through its commercial and industrial solar subsidiary, Malakoff Radiance Sdn Bhd (Malakoff Radiance) has completed the installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPVs) Carport systems at the Gas Malaysia Distribution Sdn Bhd (GMDSB) headquarters in Shah Alam and Southern Regional Office in Pasir Gudang, Johor.
The initiative marks a significant step toward sustainable energy adoption and reinforces Gas Malaysia’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
The Malakoff Radiance-Gas Malaysia collaboration follows a zero-capex business model, where Malakoff Radiance serves as the investor.
This arrangement enables predictable energy cost savings while supporting the company’s sustainability objectives.
At the Gas Malaysia headquarters in Shah Alam, the solar installation consists of both a rooftop solar PV system and a BIPV Carport system, with a total installed capacity of 323.15kWp.
Meanwhile, the Southern Regional Office in Pasir Gudang features a BIPV Carport System with a capacity of 66.67kWp.
The project operates under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 scheme, allowing Gas Malaysia to offset its electricity consumption with clean, renewable energy (RE).

Over the 20-year agreement period, the installations are expected to generate substantial cost savings.

The Southern Regional Office in Pasir Gudang features BIPV Carport System with capacity of 66.67kWp
The Shah Alam headquarters is projected to achieve an average energy savings of 17%, translating to a total savings of approximately RM1.8 million while the Southern Regional Office in Pasir Gudang will see an average energy savings of 21%, amounting to RM406,000.
Combined, both locations will save approximately RM2.2 million, with an average energy savings of 19%.
During the construction phase, potential shading issues from landscape trees near the parking areas were addressed by trimming affected trees, a solution undertaken by GMDSB.
However, since trees will continue to grow, this issue may require periodic maintenance in the future. The solar PV system is seamlessly integrated with the existing electrical infrastructure using a grid-tied configuration.
The solar energy generated supplements the facilities’ electricity consumption, reducing reliance on the conventional power grid. Inverters are used to convert DC electricity from the solar panels into AC electricity, ensuring compatibility with the existing system.
Monitoring systems have been installed to enable real-time tracking of energy production, ensuring optimal system performance at all times. Malakoff Radiance’s dedicated operations and maintenance team, supported by its operations centre, actively oversees the monitoring, performance analysis and maintenance of its solar PV assets across Malaysia.
This centralised approach allows for immediate response to any performance deviations, ensuring maximum uptime and efficiency throughout the agreement period, and providing clients with peace of mind that their solar investments are in expert hands.

Gas Malaysia’s decision to integrate solar PV technology into its key facilities sets a benchmark for environmental leadership, demonstrating how businesses can transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy mix.
Beyond cost savings, the environmental impact of these installations is significant. The solar PV systems at both sites are expected to contribute in carbon emissions reduction by over 300 tonnes per year, which is equivalent to planting more than 330 trees annually.
As part of its broader vision, Malakoff is also playing a key role in Malaysia’s transition toward electric mobility, with the installation of EV charging stations at key locations.
For example, Malakoff’s installation of EV charging stations at Gas Malaysia HQ and Gas Malaysia Jalan Gurney, Kuala Lumpur, further enhances its commitment to sustainability.

Previously, Malakoff MD and Group CEO Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib said integrating EV charging solutions into corporate infrastructure reflects the organisation’s core values and commitment to green energy adoption. These initiatives highlight Malakoff’s steadfast commitment to its purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities’, demonstrating the company’s dedication to fostering a sustainable and resilient energy future.
Malakoff is actively advancing the growth of its RE initiatives while ensuring Malaysia’s energy security remains uncompromised. Through its business pillar, Malakoff Green Solutions, the company has built an impressive RE portfolio of 173MW.
With several other upcoming projects under the pipeline, Malakoff is poised to spearhead the mission towards environmental sustainability towards a brighter, and cleaner tomorrow.
