DATUK Shazeli Kahar (picture) has been appointed the new Selangor police chief, effective today (July 30).
The Kuala Lumpur (KL) Police College commandant takes over the role from Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, who was appointed director of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) at Bukit Aman on July 21.
Deputy Selangor police chief Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan had been temporarily overseeing the position until the new appointment.
A handover ceremony was held at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), witnessed by Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology Department director Commissioner Gilberd Philip Layang.
In his remarks, Shazeli said he was mindful of the responsibilities entrusted to him and pledged to maintain the high standards of the force while ensuring continued public safety in the state.
“As the new police chief, I understand the expectations of both the public and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel for leadership that is trustworthy and connected to the community.
“I am committed to continuing the legacy of excellence and driving change to maintain Selangor’s safety and wellbeing,” he said.
Shazeli, 50, has served in the police force for nearly 25 years. He began his career with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Ipoh District Police Headquarters in Perak and has held various strategic roles at Bukit Aman.
