JUNIOR golfers from six countries will battle for supremacy on the fairways of the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) in Kuala Lumpur from May 20 to 22, during the RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational Golf Championship 2025 (JIGC).
The 10th edition of the tournament, co-organised by RSGC and the Foundation for Malaysian Sporting Excellence (SportExcel), will feature 66 junior golfers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
The Malaysian team leads the field with 33 golfers, followed by Indonesia with 11 players, Singapore (nine), South Korea (eight), Japan (four) and Taiwan represented by one golfer.
To be held at the exclusive club’s East Course, the tournament will also feature participation from five reciprocal players representing RSGC partner clubs: The Royal Perak Golf Club, Jakarta Golf Club (Indonesia) and Kanucha Golf Club (Japan).
The organising chairman, Khor Yew Teik, said this year marks a significant milestone for the organisers, as the tournament — founded as a platform for emerging youth talents to gain international and competitive exposure — has reached its first decade and earned considerable respect from regional golfing associations.
“What began as a grassroot initiative to support junior golf has now matured into one of the most respected invitation-only junior tournaments in Malaysia and the region,” said Khor at the press conference held recently at RSGC.
This year, the four top-performing Malaysian players in the tournament will be selected and jointly sponsored by RSGC and the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) to represent Malaysia in a regional junior competition in South-East Asia.
MGA’s honourary secretary, Datuk Zulkifli Ismail said the association’s cooperation with RSGC in particular, and other clubs in general, is an ongoing commitment in developing junior talents and opening doors to international opportunities. — TMR
