THE wife of late Tun Daim Zainuddin (picture) has lodged a complaint to the Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC) after not getting any update on the police report she lodged on September 30 last year.
Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid said that until today, she nor her legal team are kept in the dark over the report progress, that they don’t even know if there is any investigating officer (IO) taking on the case.
The police report, she said, was in regards to international news outlet Bloomberg article that claimed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate Daim and his families, as well as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family.
“The police have not done any investigation, as far as I know, because there has been no follow up. We didn’t even know who the IO is, for this report.
“So I came to the IPCC (to inquire) why the police have not done anything on my report.
“I hope that the IPCC, without fear or favour, would investigate my report as to why the Prime Minister has not been investigated and why nothing was done about my police report,” she told reporters when met at the Home Ministry’s headquarters in Putrajaya today.
Na’imah added that the IPCC has informed her to wait for about two to three weeks for update, after lodging her complaint earlier today.
“They (IPCC) said I would have to wait for my turn. They will inform us (Na’imah and legal team) as they have many prior complaints to attend to. So, the timeline (for the next update) may be around two to three weeks.”
MACC, in February 2023, began their investigation on Daim and his family, following information from the Pandora Papers in October 2021.
Na’imah was charged on January 23 last year, following alleged failure to declare her assets to MACC while the late former Finance Minister was then charged on six days later, under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009, for failing to comply with the final notice by not declaring his assets and bank accounts.
However, Daim was discharged but not acquitted from the charges on November 20, 2024, after he passed away on November 13 the same year.
Bloomberg’s article, which was published on September 26 last year, claimed Anwar has instructed MACC to investigate Daim and Dr Mahathir, as well as to not investigate share purchases by his former political secretary Datuk Farhash Wafa Salvador in HeiTech Padu Sdn Bhd.
However, Farhash was no longer a substantial shareholder in the company at present time.
On September 27, MACC denied the claims, and said that it is a wild and irresponsible accusation that was deliberately made to create negative perception against them.
The commission, in response, said that they do not open investigation papers arbitrarily without evidence and facts, and that each investigation carried out is in accordance with the standard operating procedure based in accordance with the law provided.
