THETA Edge Bhd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MARA Incorporated Sdn Bhd (MARA Inc) to explore collaboration in digital transformation initiatives, with an initial focus on Halal traceability in the hospitality sector.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Theta said the strategic collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both parties in developing and deploying digital solutions across the public sector and government-linked assets.

The MoU outlines a pilot proof-of-concept (POC) for Halal Traceability and Management using digital technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), and data platforms at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The partnership also includes exploring opportunities to apply artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics within the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development’s ecosystem to enhance operational efficiency and support evidence-based policymaking.

Successful POCs may be scaled for broader national rollout.

The MoU, which took effect on July 16, will remain valid for one year unless terminated earlier.

It may be extended by mutual agreement.

Each party will bear its own costs, although Theta will fund development costs for projects under the collaboration.

MARA Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of MARA Corporation and ultimately under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, is involved in property development, management, hospitality and renewable energy.

While the MoU is non-binding and exploratory in nature, Theta said it aligns with the group’s strategic direction to expand its footprint in high-impact, platform-based digital initiatives within the government ecosystem. — TMR
