A TOTAL of 465 cases involving encroachment of federal land have been recorded nationwide from 2015 until May this year.
Acting Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the figure was compiled by the Department of the DG of Lands and Mines (JKPTG), with 26 complaints reported in Penang alone.
Of those, 18 federal land lots in the state were confirmed to have been encroached.
“To address this issue, JKPTG coordinates with enforcement agencies and user committees to expedite action.
“Enforcement notices under Section 425 of the National Land Code have been issued to order the vacating of encroached areas,” he said during the oral question session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Section 425 of the National Land Code empowers authorities to issue eviction notices and take enforcement action against trespassers on government land.
Johari was responding to a question from Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad (Perikatan Nasional [PN]-Kepala Batas), who had asked for details on the number of federal land encroachment cases nationwide and specifically in Penang.
