KUALA LUMPUR — The data centre framework to be developed by the Ministry of Digital through the Data Centre Task Force (DCTF) will ensure that data centre development policy and implementation are holistically coordinated.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo (picture) said the framework, to be launched by October 2025, will assess the importance of data centres in providing solutions to issues related to necessary data integration.
“The DCTF is a committee for us to bring together relevant aspects when we receive applications for data centres and so on.
“When we talk about data, we talk about storage, security, priorities and so on. We need to see how we can ensure that the relevant data can be integrated,” he told the media after visiting the Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre today.
Also present was Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif.
The Ministry of Digital and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, via a joint statement today, said that the DCTF meeting on Monday agreed that the Ministry of Digital would be responsible for developing a data centre framework to drive the growth of the country’s digital economy.
The meeting also decided that the Malaysian Investment Development Authority would be the lead agency to approve all applications for new projects and expansion of existing investments related to data centres.
Earlier, Gobind attended a briefing by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall regarding Kuala Lumpur’s aspirations to grow into a city powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Gobind, the application of AI technology accelerates the modernisation of urban infrastructure and services, increases efficiency, and ultimately improves the quality of life of residents. — BERNAMA
