BERJAYA Land Bhd (BLand) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Impianan Utara Sdn Bhd to explore rare earth mining, Napier grass cultivation and Blackthorn durian plantation projects in Perlis, in collaboration with the state’s investment arm Menteri Besar Inc (MBI) Perlis.
In a statement today, BLand said the partnership will focus on exploration and development of rare earth elements and other strategic minerals in the northern state.
Impianan Utara has secured the necessary state-level approvals via its partnership with MBI Perlis, paving the way for potential mining activities.
At the same time, the joint venture will undertake large-scale cultivation of Napier hybrid grass — a high-yield fodder crop — alongside premium Blackthorn durian plantations.
Revenue from these plantation projects will be shared with the state government through MBI’s arrangement with Impianan Utara, in addition to lease payments that will contribute to state coffers.
BLand group CEO Syed Ali Shahul Hameed said the projects are expected to generate positive spillover effects for the state, including job creation, new investments, community development and knowledge transfer.
“We approach this collaboration with humility and purpose, and to contribute meaningfully to the local economy while upholding strong principles of environmental and operational governance,” he said.
BLand added that it may explore further collaborations with Impianan Utara, including possible border city development and tourism-related initiatives in Perlis. — TMR
