Border control denies 279 entries at KLIA in a day

by AKMAR ANNUAR

A TOTAL of 279 foreign nationals were denied entry into Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on June 2 — the highest number recorded in a single day since the establishment of the KLIA Monitoring Task Force in 2023.

The individuals, originating from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India, failed to meet Malaysia’s immigration entry requirements and were deported following screening and documentation procedures conducted by the Malaysian Border Security Agency (AKPS).

AKPS said the surge in Not-To-Land (NTL) cases often coincide with peak travel seasons and public holidays, periods when higher passenger volumes can be exploited to circumvent border entry processes.

“The heavy influx is often manipulated by certain parties who attempt to abuse Malaysia’s immigration facilities,” the agency said in a statement.

AKPS added that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen border controls and ensure that only eligible individuals are granted entry, aligning with national security interests.

Since its inception, the KLIA Monitoring Task Force has enhanced frontline screening capacity and improved the early detection of high-risk travellers, resulting in greater efficiency and security at one of the country’s busiest international gateways.
