ASEAN-AIPA Interface to boost parliamentary role in regional development

by SHAUQI WAHAB

THE 14th ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Leaders’ Interface will take place on May 26, 2025, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, held in conjunction with the 46th ASEAN Summit.

The session, known as the ASEAN-AIPA Interface, aims to reinforce collaboration between the region’s executive and legislative branches in advancing ASEAN’s inclusive and sustainable development agenda.

Chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the high-level meeting will include the presentation of the AIPA Message by AIPA president and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

Under the theme “Parliament at the Forefront for Inclusive Growth and a Sustainable ASEAN”, the interface will highlight the crucial role of parliamentary bodies in shaping policies aligned with ASEAN’s long-term priorities.

Key focus areas include food security, energy transition, digital governance and climate resilience —issues central to achieving participatory and accountable regional development.
