Ascend Airways eyes November launch as it nears final AOC approval

ASCEND Airways Malaysia, a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, is on track to begin operations by November 2025 after progressing to Phase 3 of its air operator certificate (AOC) application with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

The Kuala Lumpur-based ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance) and charter airline, which was granted its conditional air service permit (CASP) by MAVCOM in 2024, will first launch cargo operations, followed by passenger services.

Its first B737-800 freighter is set to arrive in Q3 2025, with two additional passenger aircraft expected by end-2025 and early 2026.

“Our mission is to support the growth of local and regional airlines… and help them increase operational agility and capture the rising demand for passenger and cargo operations,” said Ascend Airways Malaysia CEO Germal Singh Khera.

The airline aims to become a leading ACMI and charter provider in the Asia-Pacific, offering wet lease services that help airlines and logistics firms manage seasonal peaks, flight disruptions, and maintenance-related capacity gaps.

“We are continuously grateful for the support… from the Ministry of Transport, CAAM, MAVCOM and other authorities,” Khera added.

Ascend Airways Malaysia is a key part of Avia Solutions Group’s regional expansion.

The group currently holds an AOC in Indonesia, with ongoing applications in Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia, as it targets three more AOCs in Asia-Pacific by 2026. — TMR
