BERJAYA Corp Bhd (BCorp) saw a net loss of RM92.34 million for the third quarter ended March 31, 2025 (Q325), reversing from a net profit of RM689.92 million a year earlier, as revenue slipped to RM2.54 billion from RM2.78 billion.
For the nine-month period, BCorp posted a net loss of RM348.87 million compared to a RM580.23 million profit previously, with cumulative revenue falling to RM6.97 billion from RM7.58 billion.
Despite strong performance from its UK-based automotive retail unit H.R. Owen — buoyed by increased sales and the addition of Lotus to its brand lineup — the group’s overall performance was weighed down by weaker food retail operations, foreign exchange headwinds, and the absence of contributions from completed property projects and overseas sales.
Food retail revenue declined due to fewer Starbucks outlets and the exit of Papa John’s Pizza in the Philippines.
Losses also widened due to underperformance at Kenny Rogers Roasters and pre-operating costs for new overseas ventures.
Meanwhile, property earnings fell after The Tropika project completion, despite some offset from ongoing local sales.
Looking ahead, BCorp expects domestic segments to benefit from strong consumer demand and tourism recovery, while the gaming division is projected to sustain its growth momentum.
The group remains cautiously optimistic for a satisfactory performance in the final quarter of FY2025. — TMR
