THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Defence Ministry (Mindef) have signed a strategic agreement to jointly develop a long-range air defence radar system for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
The agreement was formalised today at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA’25), with MCMC executive chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din and Defence Ministry Secretary General Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali as signatories.
The collaboration is part of a broader initiative to strengthen national defence preparedness through the development of critical military infrastructure anchored in secure communications and advanced radar technologies.
“This agreement reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to bolstering national security through coordinated efforts between civilian and defence sectors,” both agencies said in a joint statement.
Under the terms of the agreement, MCMC and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) will jointly execute a strategic initiative to deliver the radar system, which is set to enhance RMAF’s surveillance and control capabilities across southern Peninsular Malaysia.
The system is expected to significantly reinforce Malaysia’s airspace security and uphold national sovereignty.
The initiative supports the Whole-of-Government (WOG) approach, which promotes inter-agency cooperation to advance national objectives.
