POLICE have conducted a security simulation ahead of the 46th ASEAN Summit, focusing on the movement of official convoys carrying leaders and delegates from member countries.
The simulation, led by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), was carried out based on the actual schedule of the two-day programme.
Deputy Director of the Internal Security and Public Order Department (Operations) at Bukit Aman, Deputy Commissioner MV Sri Kumar, said over 6,200 personnel will be deployed throughout the summit period, with numbers expected to increase as needed.
“Apart from route control, personnel are also stationed to monitor movement and security preparations, including aspects of metal detection and facial recognition,” he told Utusan Malaysia yesterday.
He urged the public to cooperate and understand the importance of the event to national and regional interests.
“We are only closing roads gradually for one week to ensure the smooth running and safety of the event,” he added.
The public is also advised to postpone non-essential travel, especially within the capital.
The 46th ASEAN Summit will begin with senior officials’ meetings on May 23, followed by ministerial-level meetings on May 25, while the heads of government are scheduled to meet from May 26.
