GAS Malaysia Bhd has launched the country’s first centralised biomethane injection station in Kluang, Johor, as part of its push towards renewable energy (RE) and low-carbon solutions.
The facility, developed through its wholly owned subsidiary Gas Malaysia Green Ventures Sdn Bhd (GMGV), is expected to begin operations in the second half of 2025.
Gas Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin remarked that the launch marked a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards realising the aspirations outlined in its GM32 Strategy.
“Through GMGV, we remain committed to reducing carbon emissions and facilitating the transition to cleaner energy across industries,” he said at the launch today.
The project supports several national policies including the National Energy Policy 2022-2040 (NEP), the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the National Biomass Action Plan 2023-2030.
Strategically located to receive biomethane from nearby palm oil mills, the station will serve as a central hub to inject renewable gas into the national grid.

The biomethane initiative aims to turn palm oil waste into high-value renewable gas, contributing to a circular economy while strengthening the plantation sector’s value chain.
The station will supply green gas certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), allowing industrial customers to meet sustainability targets while improving project viability for local biomethane producers.
Also present at the launch was Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani who also witnessed the signing of a financing partnership with AmBank (M) Bhd and a memorandum of collaboration with Evonik on future green technology initiatives.
Gas Malaysia is officially recognised in the Malaysia Book of Records with the presentation of a certificate at the event, acknowledging the centralised biomethane injection station as the first of its kind in the country.
“Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in our commitment in cultivating partnerships and delivering sustainable growth that creates long-term value,” Wan Zulkiflee said.
