Moderate earthquake strikes Banda Sea, no tsunami threat to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck the Banda Sea, Indonesia, at 6.45 am today.

In a statement, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the quake occurred at a depth of 171 kilometres, about 413 kilometres south of Ambon, Indonesia.

There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia. — BERNAMA
